Check-Ups & Cleanings

It’s the single best way to catch decay and other problems in their early stages, before you develop more serious dental issues. Dental Checkups & Cleanings Santa Rosa

Take Care of Your Health

Going to the dentist and getting a regular dental cleaning helps prevent gum disease, cavities and other oral health issues. The earlier dental conditions can be treated, the easier treatment is likely to be.

Get a Whiter, Brighter Smile

There’s nothing quite like that freshly professionally cleaned feeling you get after seeing a dental hygienist. Your teeth will look cleaner and brighter afterward, too. We have a number of options for professional teeth whitening.

Catch Potential Problems Early

Patients who have had dental work, whether that’s a crown, bridge, implant, fillings or dentures, need to be conscientious about keeping up with dental cleanings. Good dental hygiene helps all types of dental restorations last longer.

When should I schedule a check-up?

During your first visit with Dr. McCormick, we will do an initial dental exam of your mouth and take any necessary x-rays of your teeth. These help show us any hidden decay, cavities, jaw or tooth problems. The dentist will also examine your teeth, tongue, bite, gums and mouth to look for any potential or existing problems.

A dental checkup and teeth cleanings are an important part of preserving your overall dental health. During your annual exam, we can help to keep your mouth as healthy as possible and detect any potential problems before they become major issues.

For regular teeth cleaning, we usually recommend visiting twice a year, as the American Dental Association suggests. Having your teeth cleaned every six months prevents plaque from building up and causing damage that may require additional dental procedures. We also start new patients out with a thorough cleaning and exam to look for any current or developing dental problems. Please note, there are some people that need more frequent cleanings. We plan treatment based on patient’s individual needs.

What can you expect at your check-up?

At your annual check-up by the Dentist, you will have your teeth cleaned by one of our Registered Dental Hygienists. The dentist and hygienist will be looking for tooth decay , changes to your gums or any signs of oral cancer or other diseases. The dental hygienist will then clean and polish your teeth and talk to you about how to properly care for your teeth through brushing and flossing. During that appointment, Dr. McCormick will consult with you and your hygienist.

What comes next?

After your initial visit, your dental health will determine how often x-rays will need to be taken, or if other treatments or procedures may benefit you. If any issues are found during your exam or on the x-rays, Dr. McCormick will discuss your treatment options. If you are interested in cosmetic dentistry, he can discuss the wide range of services we offer to help you have the best smile possible.

About Dr. Andrew McCormick:

Dr. Andrew T. McCormick is a native Californian originally from Monterey County. He graduated from U.S.C. school of dentistry and subsequently opened his practice in Santa Rosa, finding Sonoma County to be an ideal place to locate.

Learning more about the connection between dentistry, medicine, and medications and environmental toxins is of particular interest to Dr. McCormick because he sees the effects of these on his patients.  Because of this, he has sought out non-traditional and progressive educations.  Some of these groups have recently been the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH) and the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT).

One of Dr. McCormick’s interests is involvement in the community.  He was an early participant in Leadership Santa Rosa and now he sits on the board for PDI, a dental clinic in Windsor for underprivileged children. In January 2010, he became an accredited member of AACD, one of 350 dentists worldwide, after extensive work to raise his level of expertise in cosmetic and rehabilitative dentistry.
